Day 59 · · About five minutes

A quieted soul

Psalm 131:1–3 · King James Version

  1. Read

1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. 2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. 3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

  2. Reflect

The psalmist sets down great matters too high for him and describes a soul quieted 'as a weaned child' with its mother. This calm comes from trust, and it turns outward: 'Let Israel hope in the Lord.'

  3. Pray

Lord, I lay down what is too high for me. Quiet my soul like a child resting with its mother, and keep my hope in you. Amen.

  4. One step
