Day 107 · · About five minutes

The name above every name

Philippians 2:9–11 · King James Version

  1. Read

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

  2. Reflect

Paul's hymn ends where Christmas leads: the one who humbled himself is given 'a name which is above every name', and every tongue will 'confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.' The Catholic Church keeps an optional memorial of the Most Holy Name of Jesus on January 3, though in 2027 that date falls on a Sunday.

  3. Pray

Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that you are Lord. Let my words and choices this year bring glory to God the Father. Amen.

  4. One step

Say aloud, slowly, 'Jesus Christ is Lord', and name one part of your life you want to place under him this year.
